30% of Washington County Funded Outpatient Clinics in Downtown Hillsboro
Thirty percent of outpatient mental health and addiction clinics receiving direct support from Washington County are located in downtown Hillsboro according to information provided to the Hillsboro City Council by Assistant Washington County Administrator Sia Lindstrom.
Washington County is the local mental health authority responsible for providing services to those afflicted with mental illness and drug addictions and provides direct support to 30 outpatient clinics county-wide. Of those 30 clinics 9 are located in the 12 square blocks of downtown Hillsboro. However, state statute requires the local mental health authority to geographically distribute services throughout the county. According to the County's web site geographic location is part of the service provider selection criteria. The downtown neighborhoods have been targeted by Washington County to be the mental health and addiction treatment hub in violation of Oregon law.
Segregation of services creates a hardship on clients seeking employment and limits housing options while adversely impacting the local community.
